BTN Collaboration Spotlight: DEFI Construction x Blinds Plus Designs at Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel
One of the biggest advantages of being part of the Building Trades Network is the opportunity to collaborate with other skilled professionals on standout projects. A recent example of this was the beautiful and functional installation at the Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, CA, where Blinds Plus Designs and DEFI Construction teamed up to create a custom outdoor window covering solution for the hotel’s event space.
The Project
Outdoor Event Space – Custom Window Coverings

The Shorebreak team needed an outdoor drapery solution that was as resilient as it was beautiful—able to withstand coastal weather, easily maintained, and flexible enough to be used only during events.
Blinds Plus Designs – Scope of Work
Blinds Plus Designs, led by BTN member David Hobbs, was entrusted with fabricating approximately 57 linear feet of custom outdoor drapery. The Shorebreak requested two distinct sets of drapery made with materials that could handle the salty air and sun exposure of beachfront life, and be easy to clean.
To meet this need, Blinds Plus Designs selected a scuba double-knit fabric—a durable and resilient textile—choosing Charcoal for one set and Beige for the second. The drapes were designed with grommets and paired with custom clasped S-hooks, allowing hotel staff to quickly hang or remove the drapery as needed. This flexibility was essential, as the drapes are intended to be up only during private events, while the hardware remains permanently installed.
“Chad has an incredible eye and quickly came up with a design that both the Shorebreak and we felt would be the perfect solution for this custom drapery job,” said David Hobbs. “Collaborating with Chad on the design of the custom rods and brackets for the Shorebreak was nothing short of amazing. Blinds Plus Designs will be lucky to work with Build With DEFI again in the future.”
DEFI Construction – Scope of Work
DEFI Construction was brought into the project by Blinds Plus Designs for their precision fabrication expertise. Their responsibilities included:

Designing and developing custom stainless-steel brackets and hang-bar hardware.

Providing concept ideation and final shop drawings for hotel approval.

Fabricating approximately 57 linear feet of powder-coated stainless steel hang-bars and brackets to ensure longevity in a coastal environment.

Installing the hardware per plan, ensuring everything aligned perfectly with the intended use.
