Beginning his construction career in 1976 as a general building contractor, Paul soon earned his general engineering contractors license and reinforcing steel license. With a specialty in structural reinforcing projects, Paul was invited by the city of Los Angeles to join the engineering committees responsible for writing new residential and hillside build codes after the Northridge earthquake.
