When Family Calls, We Build with Heart.
Sometimes work takes us a bit out of our usual zone—but when it’s for family, the journey is always worth it. Recently, Premier Plasting had the opportunity to tackle a challenging waterproofing and mold remediation project in Pacifica, just outside San Francisco. Although it was a bit out of our normal range, this project was extra special because it was for my own family.
The Family Call for Help
It all started when my Uncle Kirk (my dad’s brother) reached out. He was facing serious waterproofing issues at his home. Moisture had infiltrated the framing, leading to black mold seeping through the drywall into his kids’ bedrooms. Anyone who’s dealt with black mold knows that this isn’t just an eyesore—it’s a health hazard, especially where little ones sleep.
The Long Road to a Solution
We packed up all our equipment and embarked on an 8+ hour drive to Pacifica. Once on site, we set up shop and got to work. After a thorough investigation, we discovered that the old waterproofing paper behind the original stucco—dating back over 70 years—had completely disintegrated. This failing barrier was allowing moisture from the cement substrate to flow unchecked into the house’s framing, causing wood rot and even threatening the foundation. The mold was just the visible symptom of a much deeper problem.
A Comprehensive Fix
We didn’t just patch up the mold; we went to the root of the issue. Here’s what we did:
- Removed the Old: We tore off all the aged stucco and plywood.
- Replaced and Remediated: Any rotted wood was replaced, and we treated the affected areas with a powerful mold remediation solution.
- Rebuilt with Quality: New plywood and lathing were installed along with a fresh moisture barrier.
- Finished with Style: We completed the project with a 20/30 Santa Barbara smooth finish, giving the house a sleek, modern look.
Not only did we fix the problem, but we transformed the exterior—making his house look 10x better than before!
Family Involvement and Future Prospects
A special shoutout goes to my little helper cousins, Brandon (10) and Connor (12). Their curiosity about the construction process turned them into eager assistants on the job. I provided the brains, and they certainly brought the brawn! They’ve already promised to list us as hearty references for their future job searches. Brandon’s love for Roblox and gaming and Connor’s budding interest in cooking (thanks to their dad, the famous chef Kirk Webber of Cafe Kati) just add to the charm of our family ties.
A Project to Remember
At Premier Plasting, every project is a chance to showcase our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and family values. This Pacifica project was not just about fixing a home—it was about reinforcing the bonds that make our family and our work so special. We’re proud to have turned a serious issue into a stunning transformation, proving that when family calls, we always answer with excellence.
